Avi Buffalo - What’s In It For
Sunday, February 21st, 2010About four years ago, DJ Stress called me up to bring him some punk mp3s for a gig he was doing in Westminster (ironically across the street from the cemetery where Brad from Sublime is buried). Anyway, in the other room next to where DJ Stress was spinning was this teenage band from Long Beach rocking out. Stress and I watched these kids and were totally blown away by their talent. The lead singer, Avi, had this unreal stage presence I had never seen before. He was totally on fire, singing and play guitar like a mad man.
We hung out with them after their show and shot the shit. Anyway, I heard Avi on the radio today and I was like Yay! he is getting air play…
This may bring world peace. Dumbfounded Jam Sessions
Friday, January 22nd, 2010Kraftwerk and Daft Punk - The Perfect Combination
Thursday, January 14th, 2010My dream is for these two groups to collaborate together. If they could do an album together I would be the first one to buy it. If they did a concert together, I would get on the first plane out of town and jet over to the show.
I see a lot of similar themes among these two groups. They both have a thing for robots, computers and aerodynamics. Finally, they are both major innovators and huge influences in the electronic music scene and they are both from Europe.
Aerodynamic vs Aerodynamik
Digital Love vs Computer Love
Robot Rock vs The Robots
Sugimoto Kousuke and Manabe Takayuki - The T.V. Show
Monday, December 14th, 2009I don’t even know what the name of this song is (perhaps “The T.V. Show” ??), but the attention and detail that went into this animation is ridiculous. This entire video is based on that old school television error screen, you know the screen that just beeps and has those seven vertical bars of different colors on it (white, yellow, aqua, green, pink, red and blue)? Those seven colors are represented in each sub plot in this music video. As the video starts to get more chaotic, the color themes start to invade each other’s story and all hell breaks loose. I’m sure that made no sense….so just watch it. It’s very entertaining.
Primus - Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver
Thursday, December 10th, 2009Brother Ali - Uncle Sam
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009This song hit a nerve with me one day. I was blown away by these lyrics:
“You don’t give money to the bums On the corner with a sign, bleeding from their gums
Talking about you don’t support a crackhead What you think happens to the money from yo’ taxes
Shit the governments an addict With a billion dollar a week kill brown people habit.”
Yep - your tax dollars go to pay for war. Pretty simple really. The strange thing is no one ever asked me if I wanted my tax dollars to be used overseas. I personally would prefer to keep my dollars at home, inside ‘Merica.
Princess Superstar - Perfect
Friday, December 4th, 2009This song somehow found it’s way onto my ipod. I normally don’t listen to music like this, but the production by Mason is really amazing. I am now a Princess Superstar fan! The synthesizer work (or whatever he uses) is ridiculous. To top it all off, this video has some strange, ironic “objectification” undertone that creates a weird surreal visual experience.
